Dear Member
Welcome to this my second newsletter. I am now three quarters of the way through my year and cannot believe how quickly it is passing. I am looking forward to the busy January to March period when a large proportion of our members are back with us and for those of you that are still back home I look forward to seeing you soon.

I have provided a fixture list for the next three months on the reverse of this letter. You will note that we are now to hold our own members only major board competition in February to honour our President. The committee feel that the open competition run by the course management in September/October is no longer relevant to our club. This change has the full support of the Tavio family who have promised they will be present on the day..

We held a very successful 60’s & 70’s evening on 21st November which was attended by around one hundred and forty people and the staggering amount of €751 was raised for my charity. This sum was further boosted by raffles at the club championship presentation and our Christmas Fun Competition. Bernie Massey continues to do a sterling job in selling raffle tickets and rattling her tin at every opportunity and special thanks go to her. The total raised so far this year now stands at €2752. Well done to you all and keep on giving. It will go to worthy causes.

We will be repeating our Horse Race event 0n 20th February in the clubhouse and of course do not forget our annual presentation dinner dance on 23rd January 2009 at the new venue of VInnci Golf Hotel on Golf del Sur. The deadline for booking for this dinner is Friday 9th January. Captains Day is on 22nd March. Do not miss it! Finally I remind you that subscriptions are now overdue. Please let Bryan Masters have your money as soon as possible

THE MASTERS

This annual competition was held on 12th October 2008 and was once again sponsored by Jan & Brian Masters and my thanks go to them for their continuing support of this major. 36 players took part. This years Masters Champion was Barbara Jennison with a net score of 96-24=72 and her green jacket was presented by last years champion John Fallows. In second place on countback was Alan Watson (84-11=73), third place went to Janet Stanley (89-16=73) and in fourth place was Nick Parker (86-12=74).

THE ARTHUR ROBINSON TROPHY

This annual competition in memory of Arthur, one of the clubs founders, was held on 2nd November 2008. 46 players took part and there were some very good scores. The trophy winner was Pam Roe with a net score of 69 (97-28). Second place went to Arthur Williams (79-9=70). Third prize went to Alan Murphy (79-7=72).

THE CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP

This principal major annual 36 hole competition was held over two rounds on Thursday 20th and Sunday 24th November 2008. After the first round Jan Maes was in the lead for the Handicap section with a net score of 69 and Tony Bolsover was in the lead for the Scratch section with a gross score of 76.
On a blustery Sunday the second round competition was a close run thing. Tony Bolsover managed to hang on with a gross score of 79 to become the 2008 Scratch Champion by a three shots over Ian Sharp. Jan Maes was pushed into second place by a single shot in the Handicap section by the new 2008 Handicap Champion Linda Williams with net scores of 72 in the first round and 69 in the second round.
The presentation was held in the Casa Club on Sunday where a raffle raised €175 for the Captains Charity.

THE MARGOT MOFFAT TROPHY

This annual competition was held on 7th December 2008 and was once again sponsored by Brian and Sue Gladwin and my thanks go to them for supporting a wonderful day. 50 players took part. Overall winner on countback was Tony Bolsover with 37 points. First Gent was birthday boy Ian Hooley also on 37 points. First Lady was Maureen Lillico with 36 points. Best front nine score was Ian Sharp with 19 points, best back nine score was Alan Murphy with 20 points and nearest the pin prizes went to Ray Massey (2nd) and Alan Murphy (!8th).

FOURSOMES CHAMPIONSHIP

This annual matchplay competition had a very small entry field of only 28 players. The winners were Maureen Lillico and Arthur Williams with a score of 29 + 38 = 67. Runners up were Ian Sharp & Sue Gladwin with a score of 31 + 35 = 66 beating Teresita Caldwell and Fred Spittle on countback.

THE TENERIFE JERSEY OPEN

This Boxing Day Fun Competition once again sponsored by Tommy Noel and is now in its eighth year. 1st lady was Barbara Jennison with 31 points, 2nd lady was Jean Hill with 29 points on countback to 3rd placed Lynda Williams. 1st gent was Arthur Williams with 38 points on countback to 2nd place Clive Jenkins and 3rd place on 37 points went to Gary Duffy. Team prize went to Lynda & Bob Thompson and Pam & Jeff Cowan with a total of 115 points. There were three team scores better but the sponsor insisted the prizes only went to persons attending the presentation.

THE PAUL & JAMES FERRABY MEMBERS TROPHY

This one off competition on 28th January 2008 was sponsored by Paul Ferraby in celebration of his son James’ return from Golf College in the US. Scratch prize was won by Rob Leadbeater with a gross score of 78. Best ladies prize went to Lynda Williams with a nett 75. Gents first prize went to Eddi Greygoose with a nett 72 and second prize went to David Davidson with a nett 73. David Davidson also won nearest the pin on the 5th hole and nearest the pin on the 18th hole was won by Bob Thompson.

For those of you returning I remind you that we require you to bring a current handicap certificate from your Home Club with a full playing record. You will not be eligible to win prizes until this information is received. A phone call to Ian Pilling (0034 922 717607) a week before you arrive should ensure you are on the entry sheet.

HOLES IN ONE

Congratulations for the hole in one scored by Dave Bristow at the 2nd hole in the first round of the Club Championship. This brings the total for the year to three, the two earlier ones having been scored by John Fallows and Mike Baker.
